Labour Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from efforts of the labour union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. The majority of countries celebrate Labour Day on First of May, and it is popularly known as International Workers' Day or May Day.

The celebration of Labour Day has its origins in the eight hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

First of May is a national holiday in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Italy, Jordan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Thailand and Vietnam.

However in United States of America (USA), Labor Day is a federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday of September.
